BRICS will have its own rating agency for universities

A meeting of the BRICS Expert Council was held, which was timed to coincide with the Russian Federation's chairmanship of this interstate association in 2024. 

State Duma deputy Vladimir Sipyagin, who spoke at the council meeting, emphasized the importance of expert, analytical and practical work for the development of ties in the field of education and science within the BRICS framework. He noted that this work is being carried out in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.

“ Today, without interaction between the scientific and educational environment, not only at the national level, but also at the international level, with the authorities and industry of friendly countries, it is impossible to make a qualitative breakthrough ,” noted Sipyagin.

At the meeting, the creation of an international ranking of educational institutions of the BRICS countries was announced. The decision to create such a rating was made following a meeting of the Presidential Council for Science and Education on February 8, 2024.

Advisor to the President of the Russian Union of Rectors, Deputy Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Dmitry Grishankov presented the history of the creation of the rating and called it “a tool for defending the national interests of the country.”

The Expert Council on International Educational and Scientific Cooperation was created by a decision of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education in 2022.

The purpose of creation is to prepare proposals for the formation and implementation of certain areas of state policy, and their legislative support.

The Expert Council continues to work.

The meeting participants will hear reports, analyze the presented materials and give their recommendations for preparation for the 11th meeting of the BRICS ministers of education, which will be held on June 11, 2024 in the city of Kazan and the BRICS Summit, scheduled for October 22-24, 2024, there.
